Want to learn more about school restructuring in Rock Island/Milan?
The Rock Island/Milan School District, City of Rock Island Neighborhood Partners, Parent Teacher Association (PTA), and Rock Island/Milan Church Association will be holding eight public input meetings to discuss restructuring options for the District.
The Rock Island/Milan School District has been experiencing a decline in enrollment over the past few decades. In fact, the District has seen a 43% drop in the number of students since 1971. After an analysis of the District facilities, administrators agreed that it has become too expensive to continue to operating with the current number of buildings in operation. On June 12, 2007, the School Board was presented with 18 different scenarios for restructuring. On June 20th, the options were narrowed down to seven. The Board reviewed the seven and six additional options on July 17, 2007. On July 24, 2007 they will discuss the options and consider narrowing them down further.
The restructuring of schools is one of the most important issues facing the residents of Rock Island and Milan today. The outcome will affect all of us for many years to come. For this reason, the School District would like to hear what you think about the different restructuring options. Eight public meetings have been set up on different days and at different times to accommodate different work schedules. Your input is a very important part of this decision making process and we hope that you can attend one of these sessions.
The meetings are organized as follows:
30 minute presentation by administration
60 minute question and answer session
15 minute refreshments
30 minutes additional question and answer session.
