About PBIS
PBIS is an acronym for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports.
The goal of school-wide PBIS is to improve all student's ability to be successful in life and school by working to make "problem behavior less effective,
efficient, and relevant, and desired behavior more functional."
How can schools improve the behavior and academic success of students in the information technological age? This is not an easy task considering that the student peer culture is dominate in our children's lives. The media and popular culture has replaced the role of the parent and "good old fashioned" values of the family. Research has shown that negative and punitive punishments alone are not effective in motivating students in today's culture. But there is a need for consistent positive rewards and consequences for behavior. School's must take a problem-solving approach to behavior, seeking to find helps and interventions (through the school and within the community) to support students so that ALL students might be successful in school and in their life after high school.
