Action Team #1 Log
Action Team: #1: Credit Recovery: Rigor & Relevance
Date: November 29, 2007
Meeting Location: Room # 124 Start time: 1:51 P.M. End time: 3:15 P.M.
Leader: Andrew Hains Recorder: Tia Rice
Members Absent: R. Currier, M. Gabrysiak, K. Hornick, D. Jirele, D. Lamaster, N. Wolber
Topic of discussion: We talked about making AYP; 55% needs to meet/exceed to make AYP; increase is 7.5%. NCLB will probably be reauthorized instead of going away. Shift may go from local control of education to national. High expectations is pretty serious.
Credit Recovery: Current contract 13-14 students before/after school; World Geography will be created. Career Development no longer offered. Waiting for Plug-in update on 6 courses; Seniors are currently the only participants. The last teacher that student failed, should sign Plato contract. Working on adapting Plato for school needs. Teachers attended training. All students will complete the research paper for English. Committee made recommendations for the contract, Jennifer made the changes to it.
Plato: Resources for all teachers; not just credit recovery. Can be used on students for home tutor. ELL & Skill building through PLATO. Intervention students can use the resource. We need survey questions and input back from students.
ACT Online: Dr. Anderson will be purchasing this web-based program for all juniors to use. They can use it at home. ACT is working to have the computer score the essays.
PBIS: Several reps went to Joliet for training. Discussed teacher buy-in. Other schools had it originate from the bottom-up, not top-down. Reassess the teachers and their needs. Today, we still do not have 100% of teachers taking attendance. We networked with schools that are similar with Rocky. When students are tardy, they will be kept until the end of advisory. Are the tardies improving? Generally, yes. Biggest issue: disrespect/defiance what is the nature of this defiance/ It appears that some of this is related to not serving teacher detention for tardies
We need directives from administrators. Rules can‚t be vague. Rules may not be the issue: it‚s the principle. Have students sit with their class. That is an expectation. Pre-Corrections: Get on the intercom, make an announcement. Students feel that they have an equal standing with you. Students need to listen to the teacher when they make the request. We need to decide what‚s important...EXPECTATIONS....EXPECTATIONS...Trust issues with other staff members.
Georgia: talked about a rubric with guidelines.
Dori: More PBIS videos modeling behavior will come...
Actions taken: These action concerns will be considered with Data Team Leader‚s concerns.
3 Focus Areas for our Action Team/Deans:
1) Respect the expectations of the individual teachers, 2) Respect as it relates to assemblies.
3) Foul Language ˆ Cursing
Key Findings:
We‚ve made other recommendations before, but they continue to lack support from the proper people and they fail.
