Topic of discussion:
1. How to implement Career Cruising by April meeting.
2. Provide an emphasis on career strands.
3. Concerns about teachers not having ownership of outcomes and objectives.
Do not have materials in classroom to meet current needs let alone future needs.
Actions taken:
Divided into three sub-groups for continuation of committee progress.
Key Findings
1. Need to provide basic vision to implement cruising for 2008-2009 year.
a. 8th grade need of on-line portfolio;
b. that career interests could be further explored in Computor Concepts class;
c. sophomore advisory could look for course plan and a College research program;
d. junior advisory could interview people in a career interest with a parallel oersausion essay in the field;
e. senior year a job shadow program cold be established.
2. Need to create an insert of new course offerings.:
a. new course proposals were explained ;
b. discussion on the potential to become the first with in-house programs in Family & Consumer science and Culinary Arts;
c. continued discussion on a return to Vocational Arts;
d. time line for fall 2008 Course Catalog.
