Action Team #1 Log

Action Team: #1: Credit Recovery: Rigor & Relevance
Date: April 25, 2008
Meeting Location: Room # 122     Start time: 1:50 P.M.         End time: 3:00 P.M.
Leader: Andrew Hains        Recorder: Tia Rice
Members Present: (See Attached List)

Topic of discussion:  Name has been changed from High Expectations to Culture & Climate.
Create a year end presentation regarding what we≠ve done in our team, etc.
Intervention; Plato used in T.E.C. /LOFL  P.B.I.S. √ Store has been successful. They need to spend $240 by the end of May.  We need more Pride Cards.  Paper is okay; no cardstock needed.  We need to get them to JR. that tested.  Dori is editing the Movies.  Webpage √ source of communication.

Interpretation of PBIS Data:  We can look at areas of concern and trends; this year has been better according to AH.  Climate has improved also.  Hallway sweeps have been working as well.  Use data to start problem-solving.

Hall Sweeps: Students are taken to the auditorium; they are issued detentions to be served in 48 hours; OSS follows if a student fails to come serve it.  Teachers input are needed.

DECLINE IN ENROLLMENT;

DF QUESTION:  ARE WE GOING TO GET A LIST OF CLEAR EXPECTATIONS & RULES FOR TEACHERS TO ENFORCE? YES.  When rules detract from learning; they are not important. We need to address baggy pants; bookbags, etc.

We need to look at roles for next year.  We need to look at what we≠ve accomplished and creating subcommittees.  We may or may not meet as subcommittees all the time.  We need to focus on looking at Data integrity.
We≠re getting some help from Loyola Univ.
We≠re lacking Professional Development especially in the history of technology.  Character for training.  Tools for Teaching √ May not be relevant at this level.  We want some de-escalation training.  It sounds like CPI Training (Crisis Prevention Intervention) √ we could talk to SPED and use this training.  The committee could try to reconfigure the program.

Secondary/Tertiary Interventions: We≠re not doing enough with the chronic issues in the Yellow/Red areas for those students.

Why isn≠t TEC being used for behavior modification?  Why are we giving them access to computers instead of undoing the behavior? We need a certified person/Behavior Specialist in the TEC Room.

CONCERN: Quality & Quantity of Hall Monitors?

GROUP RECOMMENDATION: SAFETY CONCERNS √ WE NEED MORE HALL MONITORS.

Actions taken: Dan Trenary donated to the Store.
Cory suggested we invite Mr. Mason to the next meeting to get some clarifications on rules.
