Professional Organizations
Here are organization which support and enhance the use of technology in education. Through local group networks, state and national conferences, professional publications, research, advocacy, and development of technology standards, they help all educators improve student learning.

Rock Island Area Computing EducatorsLocal chapter of Illinois Computing Educators (ICE), which meets 4 times a year at RIROE and BHROE. RICE serves anyone in the education field in the northwestern portion of the state. Membership is free with your yearly membership to ICE. RICE meetings provide up to date information on current trends, software and Internet issues. RICE publishes a quarterly newsletter, maintains a website with teacher resources, a blog and a forum. We have also sponsored a local conference and provide networking opportunities for our members.
Illinois Computing EducatorsThe state chapter which offers members a yearly conference, IL-TCE, and supports several other state conference and technology initiatives including the IETC conference, Tech2000, ICECube (a quarterly bulletin), free membership to Atomic Learning, scholarships, advocacy, networking, and much more. You will also find archived resources from ICECube and IL-TCE. International Society for Technology in EducationISTE has developed standards, NETS, for technology for students, teachers and administrators. The student standards have been adopted by most states, including Illinois. Lesson plans and activities to incorporate these standards are available on the ISTE website. NECC is their premier national conference held each summer. ISTE also publishes The Journal of Research on Technology in Education, Learning and Leading with Technology, and many professional texts.
