About
My name is Mr. Hamburg and I proudly teach beginning band and orchestra students at Audubon, Longfellow, Ridgewood, and Willard schools.
I attended Hononegah High
School in Rockton, IL where I earned the Band's John Philip Sousa Award
during my senior year. After serving for three years in the U.S. Army
Bands, I earned my bachelor's degree with honors from Northern Illinois
University, and my master's degree from St. Xavier University.
I have been teaching band
in public schools since 1978, and have taught in the Rock Island school
district since 1996. I have taught all levels of band from beginners
through high school including marching and jazz bands. I also have
arranged a number of selections for beginning bands which allow
students with different levels of advancement to perform successfully
on the same piece.
In addition to my teaching
career, I am a performing trumpet player. I have played in a
wide range of groups including symphony orchestras, civic bands, big
jazz bands, Mozart festivals, backup bands for celebrities, commercial
jingles (I can still be heard on the Courtesy Car Dealer commercials),
and brass ensembles. I currently perform with the Quad City Brass
Quintet, Opera Quad Cities, and the Manny Lopez Big Band in addition to performing often as
a soloist at church services, weddings, and civic events.
My other interests include walking with my family, reading, golf, working on our house, snorkling on a coral reef, and the GREEN BAY PACKERS (of which I am a part-owner).
I reside in Bettendorf with
my wife Karin, and daughters Erin (a costumer in Florida) and Alla (alto, tenor,
and baritone saxophones at BHS).
